Wildcats: .250 and .300 Savage, 30-40 Krag
Other than the .250 Savage Improved and the .22-250 Improved, no one (that I know of) has necked the .250 Savage up to .308, .323, .338 or .358. I really think you could make a very nice little wildcat out of this cartridge necking it up. Thoughts?
The .300 Savage is a totally different case than the .250-3000 Savage. The shoulder is a 30 degree verses 26 degrees for the .250 Savage. The .300 Savage is 1.871" verses 1.912" of the .250 Savage. I wonder why these two cases have not been wildcatted?
The 30-40 Krag is totally different than the .250 Savage and the .300 Savage. The Krag is 2.314" and a 21 degree shoulder. (The 7x57 Mauser is 2.235" and a 20 degree shoulder) The 30-40 would be an excellent round to use for the base of a wildcat especially if you could make the case "improved" by increasing the shoulder angle from a modest 20 degrees to a 40 degree angle.
What are your thoughts?
