Vernal Equinox
Today, March 21, 2010, there will be 12 hours of sun above the horizon, and 12 hours of sun below the horizon all over the world. (Equinox - Latin for "equal night".) Also, regardless of where you are in the world, the sun will rise DUE east and set DUE west. If you want to know where due east and west are in your neighborhood just look out your window at dawn or sundown.
For us up here in The Great White North, (more than 60 degrees north), this means that the days are going to get very nicely long very fast. YEEHAA!
Paul
