Default Windows

..........In the distance, a young buck paints a pretty picture standing in a field
with frost on the ground among sweetgum in Fall colors of yellow and red...I
decided I'd gun for him with my 45 caliber CVA this evening, after chores...
Muzzleloader season has had few windows of opportunity given the wind and
rain...These last few days would yeild better weather before closing and Gun
season opener, this weekend...
...........I settled myself on the ground in a camo-painted folding lawn chair
I'd left one day last week...A 10 inch black locust had snap't off and fell across
a barbed-wire fence and I figured it would help to conceal me and offer a prop
for drawing a fine bead..(a concept that rarely works out that way for me)..
This spot over-looked a wooded hollow that I knew deer often traveled and
the young buck I'd observed earlier had headed that way..
............Mosquitoes danced in the warm sun'shine and squirrels everywhere.
The broad, dry leaves of a nearby sycamore clap't with the slightest breeze
and soon I was lost to memories and the romance of hunting method," Days
of Old"...Suddenly I caught movement to my 11:00...A deer!...Hopes soar...
Was it the buck?...no...but a nice doe...Visions of fried back'strap on flakey
layer biscuits danced in my head as I slowly shouldered my 45...She was
very nervous as she emerged from thick cover of honey'suckle and paw'paw.
And, I realized I was likely comfortably seated right where she was acustom
to coming over the fence...She was looking straight at me the whole time...
When she closed the distance to 45 yrds and finally quartered away I squz'
on 'er...The smoke from the triple 7 filled the hollow, briefly concealing her
reaction......Silence.....A light breeze soon swept it away,...There she lay!...
.............In the distance, a bunch of buzzards settle on a gut'pile in a field
with heavy frost on the ground among sweetgum in Fall colors of yellow and
red...I smile.......and for Show & Tell,..a picture......................................BH51..
