Tiny speed demon
This little fellow & his mate have been hanging around the house lately. I'm hoping they nest nearby this spring/summer. I'll put up a nesting box for them soon in hopes it'll help them make a decision. The speed of these little hawks amazes me. I tried calculating the male.s speed by the distance he travels & "counting" seconds. I know it's not an accurate figure but he covers 185 known yards in approximately 4 or 5 seconds. Either way it's amazing how fast he is. Blinding speed & very difficult to keep an eye on when he's moving. According to my ciphering, he's between 75 & 95 miles an hour. When he hits a goldfinch in mid air, it's just a cloud of feathers. Amazing little American kestrel. .....Well, he just zipped by the window again as a blur. ......Paul H
