Whatever works is my 'motto'.

I have used H414 in my .17 Remington since 'the beginning'. I have tried other powders now and then, but none have produced the MV and small groups of H414. HOWEVER, I have found H414 to be VERY 'dirty', and it fouls my .17's bore VERY quickly. I can get absolutely no more than 20 rounds through the bore before the groups open up to 2 MoA, and things start widening after 10 shots. That's a pain, and why I have kept trying other powders. Some have produced good groups but at 200 f/s lower MVs. The MV with H414 and 25-grain Hornady HPs is a consistent 4112 f/s average.

4895 is the powder I have used in my 17 REM a pain in the butt to get into the case I have a funnel on top of the case drop the powder and tap the case on the bench to get it to go in to the case. I should try the 414 good idea.

I have been tempted to use 4895, but never have. I suppose I might. The .17 Predator occupies my reloading 'experimentation' in .17 caliber at the moment.
