Re: Trip to Missouri - April, 2022

Another place we went for 'photo ops' was Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The diversity wasn't great, but it was still good picture opportunities.

On the way there, we saw this Broad-winged...

Re: Trip to Missouri - April, 2022

Rick and I took a stroll through the Boardwalk at Pershing State Park. Here are the pictures I took. There was a first for me: Wood ducks actually IN THE WOODS! It was very cool.

During the whole...

Re: Trip to Missouri - April, 2022

So let's have a look at some turkeys. (The feathered kind. ;) All of the pictures you will see were taken at a range of 150 to 300 yards.

Ladies first. These at about 150 to 200 yards.

Re: .338x.284 Win* Load Workup

PS - One kink you may find is when you enter all the parameters, and the charge, you don't get the muzzle velocity that you MEASURED. This is a function of the actual characteristics of the powder...

Re: .338x.284 Win* Load Workup

Absolutely, to everything! Sounds like you've got it figured.

You'll find the bullet lengths get more consistent if/when you use a Hornady (used to be Stoney Point), bullet comparator,...

Re: .338x.284 Win* Load Workup

That is correct, David. HOWEVER... You need to enter data for your rifle and load that are as accurate as you can be. Case capacities, case lengths, barrel length, and seating depth, are critical to...

Re: .338x.284 Win* Load Workup

By the way... This seating depth exercise once again gives me an opportunity to demonstrate the value of Optimal Barrel Timing Theory. Once I find the TIME of the most precise load for the 200-grain...

So...
Per my previous post:
The bullet is the Nosler 200-grain E-Tip.

The powder is RELODER 17.

The charge is 58.1 grains. That's 105.7% of case capacity when the bullet is seated one caliber...

Re: .338x.284 Win* Load Workup

I've decided to try a new method of "load work up". Instead of changing the charge and powder, I'm going to pick a powder and a charge that yields a 'modest' max pressure, and adjust seating depth....

Hokay...
Finally got a moment away from "the Counter Project", and the dog, and everything else, and got the throat reamed. I'm finally prepared to "make bullets" for this rifle and start the load...

Re: Burris Scopes

What happens, sometimes, is that a 'guy behind the counter' will be showing different rings and takes them out of their boxes. When he puts them back, he gets them mixed up. It happened to me.

Re: Burris Scopes

Even if it wasn't, if the bore is on the bull and the scope i off the target after 80 clicks, "centering" ain't the problem.

First, whatever COMMERCIAL entity mounted it, should have bore sighted...

Re: Burris Scopes

I think whoever mount the scope used the wrong rings. This happens. OR... Is it possible the the rings are reversed: Front ring in the rear, and rear ring on the front? This happens.

"Signature"...

Re: .338x.284 Win Project

I had to cancel the rental, as they weren't going to ship it until I was already in Missouri. However, that turned out to be a good thing because I checked Manson reamers, and they sell new, unused,...

Copied from the "Project" thread:

Beginning to feel a little snake-bit on this thing.

Seeing as how this rifle wasn't going 'off somewhere' for inletting a new stock, I was looking forward...
