Sounds like a sneaky way to find out what we have for shooters. Since I reload for others it won't work too well.

I have stuff to reload for:
.22 Hornet
.223
6.5x55
.30-30
.30-06
.380
.38/357
.40 & 10mm
.44 spl/mag
.45 LC
And I'm working on getting stuff for 12 and 20ga.

Some of this stuff was purchased when I came across good deals on used dies/etc, knowing that I will own guns in these calibers some day. I don't have guns to match every caliber I can load for.

I need to fill the gap above the .30-06 with some larger bores for larger game, maybe a Whelen or an H&H.

Hello Subsonic. I like your list. I can speak very highly of the '06 Ackley. Early results are in and I am getting easy 3050'/sec with the 150gr bullet. My next tests will be with the 180gr Accubond and I think 3000'/sec is very doable. With a BC of .507 and RL22, having over a ton of energy at 400 yards, it simply makes the 300H&H alot more expensive to load for the same net net. This bullet shoots very very flat....flatter than a hot 270. Another project I'm working on is the 35 Whelen AI. It's projected to be a real thumper.

It's nice having non-magnum alternatives. The beauty of the Ackley is the increase in powder capacity that can be used and burned. These new ultra high BC bullets are limited in non-magnums because of a long bullet length that robs powder room. The other positive sidebar is very long case life with much less case trimming which results in more range time and less time in the reloading room. I will dutifully report as the tests contine. Regards, Rick.

Quote from: sakorick;65062Hello Subsonic. I like your list.

Thanks. I like things that I can shoot enough to be proficient with them. No magnum rifles for me at this time. Magnum handguns are another thing. I'd much rather shoot hot .44 mags than even a .30-06.

I was speaking of a .375 H&H, but the .300 H&H is an interesting caliber too. I like the .375 because it's usually in a "heavy" safari type rifle, so the recoil is more manageable when compared to even some of the smaller belted mags in a 7lb rifle. I have considered a .338/06 or .338 WinMag for my next Colorado Elk trip, but think the .375 or .35 Whelen would end up getting more use shooting cast bullets when I'm not hunting.

I want a K-Hornet too.

I currently reload for the 17 Remington, 204 Ruger, 22 Hornet, 218 Bee, 222, 223, 222 Rem Mag, 225, 22-250, 220 Swift, 243, 6 mm, 25-06, 6.5 x 55, 270, 30-06, 35 Whelen, 338 Win Mag, 7mm STW, 30-30, 303, 416 Taylor, 458, 357 and 44 mag. I also have dies and components for other cartridges that I do not currently load for.  Most of my reloading is done for high volume varmint shooting in the cartridges from 25-06 and down. Reloading is a fascinating undertaking and can be very rewarding and frustrating.

From what everyone has posted it looks like everybody has at least one 30 caliber and one big 22 rifle. Pretty interesting mix of calibers I'd say.

I'd have to agree that reloading is a very challenging and often frustrating hobby. Especially when trying ot work up a load for a finicky rifle that burns gobs of powder and has an appetite for expensive bullets. Like, well my 300RUM.
