Hello Everyone,

       I recently came across a brand new weather warrior 116fhss in 30-06.  I have not been able to try and handloads through it just yet.  I have been in the process of breaking in the barrel.  For that I have been using Remington 180 gr rounds mostly so I end up with the brass afterwards.  

      What load do you all use that is outstanding in your 30-06 savage rifles.  I'd love to hear all of them even though I strictly follow the manuals.  I'm just looking for a good place to start.

52.0 gr of IMR-4064 under a 150 gr Ballistic Tip or Partition lit by a CCI Std LR primer.   Close to 3000 FPS from the 24-inch barrel of my old Springfield and it groups around 1/2-inch consistently with the Ballistic Tips, a little larger with the partitions.

Well Rick, obviously you have been reading my posts!:D 52gr IMR 4064 with the 150 (2980), 50.5gr with the 165 (2880). 4064 is my "go to" powder for a number of calibers.....very underrated and appreciated. OBTW, 4064 seems to work in Sakos, Springfields, Remington and Ruger.......I suspect the Savage will love the stuff as well!:D :D :D :D Regards, Rick.

I would have to agree . IMR-4064 produces excelent results in my 8mm Mauser Scout rifle . I use 50.0 gns behind a 108gn Nosler BT. This produces 5 shot groups you can cover with a Quater. Not a 30.06, i know , but it is in the same neighborhood. I understand that in one of the older Barnes reloading manuals, they published a load for a 180 gn bullet  for the 30.06 that posts 3000+ fps. Now that would be intresting.

IMR 4064 is also great results in my 358 and 348 Win's.  I haven't tried it in my 270 yet but RL-22 works really well in that with great velocities.

Hey there M-1 , what load do you use for your .348 ? Not hijack the thread , I would like to know what is working for you.

Sakorick - actually, that was the load my father used in the 1960's and 70's, except that he used Sierra bullets.   He also used IMR-4064 with the 125 gr Sierra spitzer, but I'd have to look up his load in the his old reloading manual.   (I use smaller bore rifles for "light" work now - in those days, we used the 125 gr for jack rabbits, coyotes, etc.)

I use IMR4064 when loading for my M1Garand but when loading for bolt actions I always liked IMR4350 and either a 150 or 165 Nosler BT bullet.
