Rick,
Once in a while even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. I would never hope to achieve your knowledge base and experience level with rifles and handloading. You are still my go-to guy for advice on all such matters.
Paul, DavidT89, and Branxhunter,
The rifle was accurized by Carolina Precision Rifles. Go to their website:
http://www.cprifles.com/. I had the "Super-accurizing" package done. They free-floated the barrel, glass-bedded the action, adjusted the trigger to a crisp 3-pound break, and recrowned the muzzle.
This rifle will now shoot < 1 MOA groups with practically any ammo I've tried, both factory and handloaded stuff. I was intrigued by Hornady's claim of +200 fps velocity over any other factory ammo of the same caliber/bullet weight. My chrony test proved this to be true, at least with the .300 Win Mag ammo I tested.
I intend to use this rifle/ammo on a Montana elk hunt in late September/early October. I'm a big fan of mono-metal bullets such as Barnes and now Hornady's new GMX projectiles. They are accurate in my rifles, and they are extremely lethal. THis ammo is extremely flat-shooting, which might be necessary for a possible cross-canyon or cross-ridge shot. Anyway, I will have complete confidence in this combination; if I can do my part, the rest will take care of itself.
Cheers to all,
Bill.
P.S. Rick, still hope to stop to see you in August and again in September.
