I just found out about 5 minutes ago.

There has been 'talk' for some time, but nobody took it too seriously.

As for the "local word":

She is the most popular governor IN THE COUNTRY - EVER - based on her "numbers". Her approval ratings about 6-weeks ago were over 80% - higher than any governor EVER. However, recently, she has been embroiled in a controversy surrounding her firing of the Commissioner of Public Safety.

Palin is a staunch conservative - there is no confusion about her political philosophy.

Personally, I think it was a poor choice on McCain's part. She is extremely politically naive, and tends to be vindictive and heavy-handed. This current incident with her former brother-in-law is not the first - or even second - similar incident. She got in trouble while mayor of Wasilla (the town in which I live) because her husband went into City Hall and screamed at, and threatened to have fired, some petty bureaucrats that wouldn't give him some sort of permit. Her husband is a loose cannon.

I think the Socialist dogs - Shumer, Pelosi, Feinstein - are going to eat her alive, and her husband is going to be a serious liability.

Do you think she can control herself?  Is her history too much of a liability?
You\'re just jealous because the voices only talk to me.

Good choice!

They had to get her off a moose hunt to come to the annoucement!
Gotta LOVE that! :D

I think she is capable of being controlled. Her husband, on the other hand, may be a SERIOUS liability.

Her history, discounting the recent events, is snow white. I don't think anyone will care about "Trooper-gate", (the guy's a bag of scum), except the Socialists, and of course they will exploit it for all it's worth and more. That's part-and-parcel of politics. HOWEVER, I believe that her husband is incapable of restraining himself and impossible to restrain. He has a history of  "melting down" in the face of typical political antics.

Palin herself has demonstrated a particularly thin political skin when folks don't 'love' her. She has been VERY draconian in dealing with Republicans that opposed her in the gubernatorial election.  Keep in mind that she was runner up in the Miss Alaska beauty contest. She's psychologically a "sosh", and her ego demands that people "like" her. History has shown that when they don't, and she has the power to do so, she is VERY vindictive. Not surprisingly, McCain has the identical reputation.

My comments should not be taken as "criticism". I voted for her, and I wold vote for her again. But... I don't know that she was the best choice for VP. But then, John McCain - unlike THL - didn't ask for my opinion on the matter either. ;)

Don't know where that came from, but it's not true. She was due at a trade school graduation this morning, and at the State Fair this afternoon. Neither she nor her husband have been hunting this season.

It was on Fox, but at the time, they were scrambling for answers to questions everyone was asking...??

Tell us about her hubby. Why would he  be a liability?

I think it would be best for me, if you got those answers from someone (the web is a good start) who isn't so easily 'cross-haired'.

The Palin administration is currently conducting what would by most standards called a witch-hunt in Alaska, with anyone opposing her being a "witch". The sorcery the witches are being accused of is "unethical" behaviour. This is of course an easy target, given that Sen. Stevens is currently indicted, Congressman Young is currently "under investigation" by the federal gov't, and half-a-dozen state legislators have been jailed for corruption.

Claiming that she's "cleaning up" state gov't, she has scared the p-e-e-waddin' out of every one of her political opponents. The reason "Trooper-gate" was any issue at all is because she was lopping heads off here and there, while all the time maintaining an air of squeeky cleanliness. All of a sudden - again - she and her staff and husband were caught on tape threatening a public employee with geting fired for not going along with what she wanted. Now, those aren't my words, they are the words of the press.

Personally, it is my opinion that the Commissioner of Public Safety should have fired the Trooper in question without having to have the Governor "exert" pressure. Of course, having been a State Law Enforcement Officer myself, I am fully aware that a "good" Trooper "covers" for for his "brother": and that's precisely what the Commissioner was doing that got him fired.

I have in the past two weeks had personal friends that are state politicians refuse to talk to me - on my private phone - about the Palin "issues" because they are concerned that their phones could be bugged.

US presidential elections are a matter of who is going to be "king of the world" - at least for a little while longer. It's not a small matter, and having been on the receiving end of the state's facists, I'm not inclined to put in writing anything that has not be published in the press. Even at that, the risk is elevated just repeating non-politically correct press reports. If you think I'm being a "drama queen", so be it. I hope you (the editorial "you"), never find out through experience about how our government actually works.

Controversy breeds popularity....I can see the science in this....This time
tomorrow, Palin will be a household name...This time next week, when
the talk shows and World news discuss the pros and cons, I'll ask my wife
what she thinks............................................................................................BH51...

Thanks Paul...

I still like the pick though...

Barry, her parents were on the moose hunt, not her...
They found out she was VP a few hours before the hunt was to begin...

QuoteI still like the pick though...

I don't particularly 'dislike' it. It is going to lead to some VERY interesting conundrums for the "politically" correct. For example: The VP debates have already been agreed to. That pits an "old, white, male" against a "young, pretty, woman". Biden should have Palin for lunch. However, if he does, he will be seen as having "picked on" a "porr, defenseless, woman". Furthermore, I suspect the Republicans will set the bar so low for Palin, that as long as she even gets close to even with Biden, they'll call it a "great victory". If she gets a couple of funny quips in, it'll be even better.

Consider the liberal press, that has already 'annointed' Obama president. They intercoursed Hilary, but when it was pointed out that they were patently biased in favor of Obama and against Hillary, they tippy-toed around until the sheeple got in the 'right' line. Now, with Palin, they'll have to tippy-toe a bit more. HOWEVER, it's still OK for the press to hate a woman... as long as it's a conservative, pro-life woman.

Consider the "mnority" mouthpieces. They're going to have to choose between "the first black president"and the first woman VP. (Since his mother is white, and his father was black, how did he get to be "black" and not "white"??? - It's a rhetorical question.)

Anyway, I assume McCain made an 'informed' decision. Nonetheless, Obama played this well. As he was being constantly bombarded by the press with "Whose your VP?, he always responded with "Someone that could be president in my absence." The press was always scheming, and trying to sus out who it would be based on "politics". Obama picked Biden for political reasons no doubt, but he did it with "plausible deniability" with the "in my absence" deflection. The Socialists will haughtily point to Palin and state that McCain chose her "just" for political reasons, and ask, "Do you really think she's ready to take your place in the Whitehouse in "your absence"?" A legitimate question, at least on the surface.

So.... I look forward to seeing how the three elements - Obama, McCain, and the Press finagle their way around this mess. The Republicans clearly are 'up against it' with the odds being 2-to-1 (Press + Obama). If, McCain wins, how will they explain THAT away?

I already saw this posed on PBS - the only news media outlet more liberal than NBC - last evening. Remove the "nature" programming from PBS, and you have the the most unadulterated socialist mouth-piece in the US. They also posed the "old white guy" vs "young pretty woman" spin for the VP dabate. These people are genuinely scum of the earth.

I would consider it a poor choice, in my opinion, the VP should have a large population base, you can put the voters in AL in a very large phone booth, compared to states such as California, NY,Texas.
The name recognition is about 0 here, so that is no help.
I just think it will not be helpful.
I recently saw an article, accurate or not, I do not know, stating Obama is 1/2 Caucasian , 43% Semite [ arab] and only 7% Negroid.
So it would seem to be stretching it to call him Black.
Oh well, image is everything.
Now we just need to make the best of it and get to supporting our choice.

While I like her I agree with Paul that there were better choices out there. Chosing her takes away the "experience" issue fir the republicans. As has been noted she has almost zero name recognition. She has no foreign policy experience. She's only in her first term as governer so not even alot of experience there. She will look good to the right wing base and may grab a few women because of her gender but all in all, not a great pick at this time. Maby in another 4 years........  The Obamites and media will have to be very carefull about what they say about her. With so many Hillary supporters still upset over how she was treated they need to walk a fine line. I read today that 22% of Hillary supporters plan to vote for McCain, if the democrats are seen as picking on another woman that number may go up. But we'll see.
Ask not what your government can do for you. Ask how your government can go away and get out of your life.
