The State Of The Bolt Action
I recently read an article in the American Rifleman about ‘the state of the bolt action rifle’ and was completely let down.
Almost every rifle shown was stainless or synthetic stocked… or both. I see in the modern rifle the same concept that I see in the modern car. They all look pretty much alike the advertising is just a little different.
I understand the rationale for both the synthetic stock and stainless steel barrels and actions. My considered, much ruminated, in depth opinion is… Bunkum!
I’m still hunting with blue steel, brown steel, walnut and maple. My rifles work just as well in good weather and in bad. I can take just as much game as any other average, decent hunter. For this reason, I look upon the need for SS and high-tech plastic as a) an excuse for performance and b) good for sales.
For pity’s sake… why cannot the hunter just take care of his equipment and learn to hunt?
