Default Pick Your Bear Shot

I modified my previous thread and gave this topic it's own thread.

Are any of the crosshairs where you would shoot? If not... where would you take the shot?

Im no bear hunter and probably never will be but heres my two cents.
Wouldnt shoot through the mouth (top photo) because it probably wouldnt put him down right away and would just pass through the back of the mouth into his organs. The second photo is proabably the shotI would take because it seems to me that it would do the most damage and hopefully make a mess of the brain, the third photo just seems a little high for the shot in my opinion and the bottom shot I wouldnt consider because I dont think it will stop him. My thinking just tells me to go for the brain and cause as much damage as possible to stop the charge. Dont tear me to shreds on this lads..

But hey, if I was faced with that I may just freeze up and not take a shot at all

I have to pretty much agree with Shotgunhemi but I woulod assume at this point I had a hand gun of some sort and would be working the whole area between #1 and #2 hoping for a spine or brain put down or at least enough damage to jaw and snout he did not want to eat.

Same excuse too, never hunted bear. I guess if a fella is going where they might be he ought to think on it a might.

Shot 1 would come off as a gut shot in the end as the bullet would enter the mouth and travel through to the organs and the bear would finish you off before anything happened to him. To me shot 2 looks like it would go through the brain. Shot 3 seems like too much potential for a grazed head shot and an angry bear. Shot four makes sense at a hundred yards away, if you had to shoot.

I'd pick shot number two.

Am I still alive?

I've shot a number of bear and would not think of a brain shot when the muzzle is up... as a matter of fact... the muzzle would need to be pointing straight down at the ground so I could go in at 90 degrees.

Almost all the shots I've taken has been to the heart... and this is only on Black Bear. I've never hunted Brown or Grizzly and would have to give it quite some consideration before I shot. For one thing... I don't want such a bear to see me before, during or after.

I did sneak up on one after it was laying in wait for me once and shot it in the back of the head with a handgun. Providence was with me that day!

The 'back of the head' shot was with lead.

I ain't no bear hunter either, but if'n he'd done got so close that I could
count his teeth as the distance in the photo seems to imply, and... I was
a pretty good shot a runnin' back'ards....I'd probably try to knock his
right eyeball smooth out in hopes that I might stir up some brain noodles.
I would imagine shot 3 or 4 would just tick him off worse than apparently
he already appears....The bowhunter will not be balling up in the fetal position and playing dead..
He'd probably still git me anyway...but...that's what I'd do...............BH51..........

There is no good shot here. Shot two and three are real bummers, especially three. That bullet will knock him down but will bounce off. Been there. Hopefully, four will slow him down and give you a second chance. Shot one will work, depending on what cartridge and bullet you're using. ...........Paul H

Not that I have ever shot a bear, but maybe the forth one. Perhaps a bit higher to break shoulders and spine. But keep shooting till its down or your out.
