Default Re: Making The .50 Alaskan Cartridge

Leading is always an issue with cast lead bullets but a few things that I have learned from a few pros can sometimes, but not always help. Every firarm has it's own little quirks. Bullet sizing is of vital importance to gas sealing and gas cutting. Sometimes sizing lead bullets larger can cure some leading problems. It used to make sense to ma that harder alloy for bullets would mean less leading but that is not always true. Harder bullets can often lead a barrel worse than softer bullets depending on bore and load. Experimention with bullet sizing, lead alloy composition, lubes and load pressures as well as bullet design can all have a big impact on barrel leading. The experimenting is half the fun. If it wasn't we wouldn't be wildcatting.
