.243?
I am looking to buy a .243 and I was wondering if there were any suggestions for which rifle to get. Right now I am thinking about a Winchester 70 or Remington 700. Which is better? or is there another rifle I should look into. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: .243?
Hi There,
You need to look at the Savage and the CZ-Brno as well:cool: they are excellent rifles, personally I would look at tem in this order:- CZ-Brno Savage Winchester Remington! OK this is a Personal opinion,........................ I just don't like the Remington. Good luck in your Quest!:D |
Re: .243?
I agree with Brithunter about the Remington, I had one in 243 and sold it after a couple of months. Wish I would have kept the scope though. I like the Winchester Classic and the CZ is a great gun as well. I could take any of the top 3 he listed and be a happy camper. Don't forget the Ruger though. I have one in 338 and a good friend of mine has 3 and we really like them.

Re: .243?
Hi Hunterbug,
Forgive my oversight, we don't seem to see many Ruger 77's here so I tend to forget them:o which is daft especially as I used to have a Ruger No1B in 300 WM:D |
Re: .243?
In reality without bias asking which is better is like asking if Ford is better than Chevy. Try them and others out and see what you like. Don't forget the Browning A-bolt, got my brother one in .308 and it's a nice gun.

Re: .243?
Thanks for all the help. I have a Browning A-Bolt in .270 and I am looking to try something new for the .243. I also want this to be a pretty tough, all-purpose rifle with synthetic stock and a stainless steel barrell (if I can afford it). If that changes anyones suggestions, please let me know. From what I could gather from the manufacturer's websites, the Ruger seems to be a bit more expensive. Is that the case, or are those just the numbers the website puts out. I also am not sure about the WSSM vs. the traditional .243 cartridge. I've heard the WSSM performs better because the fatter casing burns the powder more efficiently. Is this true? Does anyone have any experience with the WSSM? Thanks again for all your help.

Re: .243?
I have 2 Rugers one .243 and just got a 25.06. I don't know how the trggers are on any of the other new rifles but the ruger not so hot. the trigger pull awful hard. So as we speak i'm having a Timney trigger installed as I did in the .243. that being said I really like the Rugers. I also have a Remington and like it also. They are all stainless. But as the others said I would look at them all.

Re: .243?
Brithunter- Couldn't agree more. Not a fan of Remington rifles; I don't find the 700 worth the money you pay for it. Though I do like the M24 which is based off a Rem 700.

Re: .243?
Regardless of caliber or manufacturer, I have found that all rifles fire better when you warm them up---aka, use them.
